FMQ December

Our guest instructor this month is Patsy Thompson, with a great lession. After a year of lessions, I made an actual quilt for this lession using some of my ice dyed fabric in the cornerstones. I left the cornerstones free of quilting as I did not want to detract from the great dyed fabric. Like Patsy said, this was lots of fun! I'm going to add some beading to this but don't have the correct colours and so have to make a trip to town.

Free Motion Quilting November

Our guest instructor for November is Sarah Vedeler and she had us do spirils. I practised and practised with pencil and paper and eventually moved on to fabric tryouts and then put them in an actual quilt.

October Free Motion Quilting Challenge

This month Teri Lucus was the guest tutor and it was a good lesson. She had us use a silk top and a multitude of threads and stitches. I tried metallic thread but it looped hugely on the back; after endless tension fiddling I just gave up on the metallic and ripped it out.

September Free Motion Quilting Challenge

Paula Reid was our guest instructor and she gave us a circular feather wreath template to quilt. There is a lot of backtracking which I did not like; I like better the technique of making each plume come from the spine

August Colour Challenge

I chose to use the blue and brown from the palette supplied. I am still trying to design a non rounded motif to free motion quilt this double bed sized top. There aren't many of these around but I have a few ideas.

Free Motion Quilting Challenge August

Our teacher this month was Wendy Sheppard who demonstrated the 'Jester Hat' motif. I drew this every day, on paper, for 2 weeks until I put it on fabric. I see that others also had difficulty getting the flow of this design.

Colour Challenge July

July's Colour Challenge was pulled from a Picaso drawing. The colours are lovely but what to make! I decided to play with my Color Stiks and over colour an old green print. I made a sun visor from the pattern provided by Vicki Welsh and modelled by a preoccupied DH who was having a political discussion on the phone. DHs have to be good for something!

Free Motion Quilting Challenge July

This month's guest host was Angela Walters. She had us do a tile design with filler stitches in each tile. This technique can fill a large piece of quilt real estate. The double outline of the tiles make framed boxes that are offset from each other. An interesting layout.

Colour Challenge June

This is a new block for a UFO I have started working on hoping to finish soon; the colours for the challenge fit right in with the project.

FMQ Challenge June

Cindy Needham was our guest instructor for June. This was the most challenging assignment for me so far - and I thought the feathers were hard.

Freemotion Quilting April

this month we used netting or tulle to transfer the design to fabric; I've been using this method for decades so nothing new for me.

Colour Challenge March

I've not stuck down the monkey yet but I think this is the best spot for him.

Free Motion Quilting Feathers February

Diane Gaudynski was the instructor for February and she did feather shapes. I did lots of drawing before sitting down at the machine. It certainly is much harder than it looks.

Colour Palette Challenge February

Another struggle for me, orange, purple, green!

Colour Palette Challenge January

Vicki Welsh is providing a colour palette monthly to use in a design of choice.
A mix of fabric types; hand dyed, home dec, quilting cottons.

FMQ January Challenge

Frances Moore guest instructor for January had us do leaves.
I'm having great difficulty with birds nests on the back and yerky stitches.
